Imaginable Impossibilities and Thought Experiments

Medieval Logic and Modalities. The Tradition of the Oxford Calculators

A few weeks ago, a special issue was published in the online journal Noctua, entirely devoted to the tradition of the Oxford Calculators and particularly to their logical theories and treatment of modal and epistemic logic.

The issue features an article by Irene Binini on the notion of impossibility in 13th and early 14th century English logic; a new edition of Dumbleton’s Epitome, correlated by an English translation, by Barbara Bartocci and Stephen Read; and a study of development of epistemic logic in the Calculators and in the post-medieval period by Miroslav Hanke.

The special issue is published in an open access version, and freely downloadable from the publication’s website.
